It’s an exciting year for the Central Indiana Siberian Husky Club. We are celebrating our 50th Anniversary as a club and our 50th Specialty Show!

We just can’t believe that this is our 50th year as a club and that we hosted our 50th specialty this spring. We’ve come a long way from where we started. At the beginning, we used clothesline rope to make rings and hosted our matches in our members’ yards. Later on we moved our shows to the Indiana Convention Center in Downtown Indianapolis and later still to the Indiana State Fair Grounds. In March of 1998, we finally ended up at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds where we still host our specialties to date.

We are so fortunate to have the support of the Siberian community, some of which have been with us since the first specialty and our first judge Anna Mae Forsburg.   Our first specialty was held on March 24, 1979.

Winners Dog was Karnovanda’s Sasha Groznyi (Ch. Karnovanda’s Viktor Groznyi x Ch. Karnovanda’s Rally) breeder/owner/handler Judy Russell.

Winners Bitch and Best of Winners was Baircrest’s Kopper Kishka (Ch. Snoana’s Winter Wind x Tasha of Baircrest) breeder Albert and Mark Baird and owner Evelyn Baird.

Best Of Opposite Sex was Ch. Winomac’s Arctic Rust (Ch. Yeso Pac’s Target of Winomac x Ch. Winomac’s Reddy Electra) Breeder Georgette and Dennis Colbert. Owner/handler Barb Reynolds.

Best of Breed was Ch. Kontoki’s Natural Sinner (Ch. Innisfree’s Sierra Cinnar x Happy To Be Innisfree) breeder Thomas Oelschlager and owner Thomas and Sally Oelschlager.

Our 50th Specialty was held on March 25th and 26th at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds in Noblesville, IN. On Saturday Mr. James Fankhauser joined us from Michigan to judge Conformation. Ms. Lisa Lewis Hall from Georgia judged Sweepstakes. Ms. Joni Monnich from Crown Point judged our All Breed & Mixed Breed Rally. On Sunday Mr. John Martin from Ohio judged Conformation. Mr. Bill Martin from Indiana judged Sweepstakes. On both Saturday and Sunday, Mr. Robert Self of Illinois judged our All Breed & Mixed Breed Obedience.

We put in a lot of work to make this show extra special. Jack Rodenbarger, our only remaining Charter Member generously donated Cash Prizes for Saturday’s Breed winners. On Saturday we also held our annual Silent Auction. We collected donations from various vendors and offered lots of dog-related items as well as products from various local chocolate, coffee + honey businesses to offer up a little “taste” of Indiana. We provided breakfast items and lunch both Saturday and Sunday as well.
